Data Analyst Career Guide

What data analysts actually do, which tools they use and how people move into and up through the field.

What does a data analyst do?

A data analyst turns business questions into answers using data. A typical week: pull a sales export, clean it, check it against last month, build or refresh a dashboard, and write a short note explaining why revenue moved. Much of the job is communication, not code.

Common roles in the field

MIS / reporting analyst Recurring reports and reconciliations Excel, Power Query, sometimes Power BI
Business analyst Requirements, process and metrics Excel, Power BI, documentation

Job descriptions vary widely. Read several for your target city and role, and note which tools repeat; that is your learning list. Some analyst roles also ask for SQL or Python, which are outside our current curriculum.
