Excel Data Analysis Course overview

Many people know Excel features but struggle when a manager asks, "Why did margin fall in the north region last quarter?" That needs a method: define the question, check the data quality, break the number down, test explanations and present the finding clearly.

This course teaches that method inside Excel, using finance, sales, HR and operations datasets. It sits between the Advanced Excel course (technique) and the Data Analytics course (the full analyst toolchain).

Who this course is for

  • Excel users who want to think and work like analysts
  • Graduates preparing for analyst interviews
  • Professionals who must explain numbers, not just produce them
  • Learners planning to continue to Power BI analytics

Prerequisites

  • Working knowledge of formulas and pivot tables (the Excel course is enough)

The analysis workflow we practise

  1. QuestionDefine the decision
  2. Data checkProfile and clean
  3. AnalysePivot, compare, test
  4. VisualiseChart the finding
  5. RecommendExplain and act

Typical analysis tasks

Variance and trend analysis

Budget vs actual, month-on-month and year-on-year movement, and what drove each change.

Segmentation

Customer, product and region cuts using pivots; identify the few segments that explain most of the result.

Descriptive statistics

Mean vs median, spread, percentiles and outliers - and when an average misleads.

Correlation and simple forecasting

Scatter plots, CORREL, trendlines and FORECAST.LINEAR with honest limits.

What you will learn

  • Translate a business question into an analysis plan
  • Profile data for duplicates, blanks, outliers and inconsistent categories
  • Use pivots, SUMIFS and lookups to break results down
  • Apply descriptive statistics, correlation and basic forecasting
  • Choose charts that fit the message
  • Write a short insight summary a manager can act on

Tools covered

  • Excel
  • PivotTables
  • Power Query
  • Statistical functions
  • Charts
  • Analysis ToolPak

Practical projects

Sales decline investigation. Find which products and regions explain a revenue drop and present three findings.

HR attrition analysis. Segment attrition by tenure and department and recommend where to look next.

Budget vs actual review. A variance analysis pack for a finance manager with commentary.

Learning methodology

Every concept is taught on a working file. You see the business question first - for example, "which regions missed target last quarter?" - and then build the formula, query or measure that answers it.

Each module closes with an exercise you complete yourself, followed by trainer feedback. Mistakes are part of the process: we cover the errors people actually hit, such as text-formatted numbers, broken lookups and wrong relationship direction.

Training files and practice datasets are provided so you can repeat every exercise after class.

Training format, batches and certification

Format. Instructor-led, practical sessions. Online, classroom and hybrid options are confirmed when you speak to us.

Batches. Upcoming batch dates are shared during counselling so you get current information. Ask for weekday, weekend or fast-track availability.

Certification. You receive a CharterPeak course completion certificate on completing the program and its assessments. This is not a Microsoft certification. If you want to prepare for a Microsoft exam such as PL-300, tell us and we will map the syllabus to the official skills outline.

Your trainers

Trainer names, backgrounds and areas taught are listed on our trainers page. Ask for a short demo class or a call with the trainer before you enrol.

Sample exercise: is the average hiding the problem?

Average order value rose 6% last quarter, yet revenue fell. We split the data by customer segment and find that a few large orders lifted the mean while the median order and order count both dropped. The lesson is practical: check the distribution before reporting an average.

Career applications

  • Junior data analyst and business analyst roles
  • MIS, finance and operations analytics
  • Sales and marketing analytics support
  • A stepping stone to a data analyst career

Skills help you qualify for these kinds of work. CharterPeak does not guarantee placement, salary or any specific career outcome.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a statistics course?

No. We use the statistics an analyst needs day to day - averages, spread, correlation - and explain their limits, without heavy theory.

Is Excel enough for data analysis?

For datasets up to a few hundred thousand rows, yes. For larger or multi-table data, Power BI is the better tool; see Excel vs Power BI.

Do you teach SQL or Python here?

No - this course is Excel-based. Check the Data Analytics course page for the exact tool list taught there.

Will I get practice datasets?

Yes, course datasets are provided and you can repeat each analysis after class.

What is the duration of the Excel Data Analysis Course?

Duration depends on the batch (weekday, weekend or fast-track). We confirm the schedule and total hours when you speak to us, so you get current information rather than a fixed number on a web page.

Who can join the Excel Data Analysis Course?

Students, graduates, working professionals and career changers. The prerequisites are listed on this page; if you are unsure, book a free counselling call and we will point you to the right starting course.

Is the training practical?

Yes. Each module is taught on working files with exercises you complete yourself, followed by trainer feedback and project work.

Is the training online or in a classroom?

Delivery options depend on the batch. Ask about current online, offline and hybrid availability when you enquire.

Is certification provided?

You receive a CharterPeak completion certificate after finishing the program and its assessments. It is not a Microsoft certification and we do not promise exam results.

What fees and payment options apply?

Fees depend on the batch and format and are shared on enquiry. See our refund policy before you enrol.
