Power BI Course
Power Query, data modeling, DAX, visuals, dashboards and Power BI Service - from first import to a published report.
View course →Understand how DAX actually evaluates, so you can write measures that stay correct when a user changes a filter.
DAX looks like Excel formulas but behaves differently: a measure is evaluated in the filter context of each cell in a visual. Most DAX frustration comes from not seeing that context.
This course teaches context first, then the functions that change it. You practise on a sales model so every example answers a real question: revenue last year, share of total, top-N customers.
When each is evaluated, how they affect model size and why most business logic belongs in measures.
How slicers, rows and relationships shape a result, and how context transition works.
Modify filters to compute totals, percent of total and comparisons.
Row-by-row calculations such as revenue = quantity × price.
Fetch values across tables and understand USERELATIONSHIP.
TOTALYTD, SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR, DATEADD and rolling periods.
KPI measure library. A documented set of 20 reusable measures.
Time intelligence pack. YTD, MTD, YoY and rolling 12 months.
Customer ranking. Top-N and percent-of-total views with dynamic titles.
The program is taught module by module. Each module ends with a hands-on exercise built on business-style data.
Every concept is taught on a working file. You see the business question first - for example, "which regions missed target last quarter?" - and then build the formula, query or measure that answers it.
Each module closes with an exercise you complete yourself, followed by trainer feedback. Mistakes are part of the process: we cover the errors people actually hit, such as text-formatted numbers, broken lookups and wrong relationship direction.
Training files and practice datasets are provided so you can repeat every exercise after class.
Format. Instructor-led, practical sessions. Online, classroom and hybrid options are confirmed when you speak to us.
Batches. Upcoming batch dates are shared during counselling so you get current information. Ask for weekday, weekend or fast-track availability.
Certification. You receive a CharterPeak course completion certificate on completing the program and its assessments. This is not a Microsoft certification. If you want to prepare for a Microsoft exam such as PL-300, tell us and we will map the syllabus to the official skills outline.
Trainer names, backgrounds and areas taught are listed on our trainers page. Ask for a short demo class or a call with the trainer before you enrol.
A new learner writes DIVIDE([Revenue], SUM(Sales[Amount])) and gets 100% in every row of a matrix. We trace why - each row’s filter context also filters the denominator - and fix it with CALCULATE([Revenue], ALL(Product[Category])) so the denominator ignores the row filter.
The syntax is small; the difficulty is thinking in filter context. We teach context with small visual examples before moving to complex measures.
It borrows many function names but works on columns and tables with filter context, so habits from cell formulas can mislead.
You need to be able to load data and build a basic model. If not, take the Power BI course first.
Yes. DAX in Power Pivot and Power BI is the same language.
Duration depends on the batch (weekday, weekend or fast-track). We confirm the schedule and total hours when you speak to us, so you get current information rather than a fixed number on a web page.
Students, graduates, working professionals and career changers. The prerequisites are listed on this page; if you are unsure, book a free counselling call and we will point you to the right starting course.
Yes. Each module is taught on working files with exercises you complete yourself, followed by trainer feedback and project work.
Delivery options depend on the batch. Ask about current online, offline and hybrid availability when you enquire.
You receive a CharterPeak completion certificate after finishing the program and its assessments. It is not a Microsoft certification and we do not promise exam results.
Fees depend on the batch and format and are shared on enquiry. See our refund policy before you enrol.
